Il mio primo ciondolo Twinnlino - My first "Twinnlino" pendant

Mentre mio figlio veniva per la prima volta affidato per tutto il pomeriggio alla nonna - equipaggiata per l'occasione col latte della mamma in biberon, borsa fasciatoio e tutto l'occorrente per ogni tipo emergenza - la sottoscritta si è concessa, finalmente, due ore tutte per sé per seguire un corso di bigiotteria dalla sua "spacciatrice di perline" (c'è da dire che la distanza a piedi tra dove abita mia mamma e il negozio si percorre in meno di 5 minuti! Praticamente una dépendance...). 

Ed ecco qui il frutto delle mie fatiche: il mio primo lavoro con le perle Superduo (simili alle Twin Beads). Si tratta, in pratica, di perline dalla forma vagamente a rombo dotate di due fori per far passare il filo. Meno fragili delle  Tila - anch'esse dotate di due fori, ma di forma quadrata - le Superduo offrono un sacco di spunti per disegni innovativi e originali. Ma credo che abbiate già avuto l'occasione di vederli se avete un po' di dimestichezza con la bigiotteria, anche se solo come "utenti finali"!

While my son was, for the first time, entrusted for the whole afternoon to his granny - dutifully equipped with a baby bottle of my milk, a portable changing set and everything needed to cope with any emergency -  yours truly finally allowed herself two full hours to attend a beading class at my "bead pusher" (I must say that the bead shop is just less than 5 mins' walk from my Mom's place - practically an annex!)

So this is the result of that "afternoon off": my first work with SuperDuo beads (very similar to Twin beads). These beads are more or less rhombus-shaped and feature two holes to pass the thread. Less fragile than Tila beads - featuring two holes as well, but square in shape - SuperDuo and Twin beads offer countless possibilities to create original designs. But I suppose you have understood that already if you are interested in beading, even as "end users" only!

Ieri era il compleanno della mia mamma, ormai neononna del Precisino. Normalmente mia madre non indossa bigiotteria  in inverno e preferisce orecchini poco vistosi, per cui ho tentato di simulare l'aspetto di un gioiello prezioso scegliendo delle perline che ricordassero le perle vere. Inoltre il perno è in argento. 

All'inizio volevo optare per un paio di orecchini fatti con un beaded bead realizzato con le Delica lavorate a peyote tubolare, ma poi mi sono ricordata dello splendido progetto di Sylvia Sucypto "Lily of the Valley Lariat", pubblicato su Bead&Button n. 103 del giugno 2011, pagg. 33-35. Il progetto originale prevedeva un lariat con 30 mughetti di perline: io ho semplicemente utilizzato il singolo elemento per realizzare qualcos'altro. Ricordavo inoltre che mia madre aveva visto la foto del progetto sulla copertina di quel numero di Bead&Button e ne era rimasta molto colpita (anche perché i mughetti erano i fiori preferiti da mio nonno, morto in giovane età quando mia madre era ancora piccola). Non ho avuto dubbi su cosa dovevo fare e, tra un pannolino sporco, una poppata e un urgente lavaggio di body, sono riuscita a completarli in circa 2-3 orette. 

PS: il colore verde scuro del filo Nymo è voluto: ricorda lo stelo dei mughetti. 

Yesterday was my Mom's - well, the Little Precise One's neo-Granny's - birthday. Normally my mother doesn't wear false jewelry during the winter and prefers small earrings, therefore I tried to imitate real jewelry by choosing beads which could recall real pearls and a silver finding.

At first, I wanted to make a pair of earrings made with some Delica bead tubes worked in tubular peyote stitch, but suddenly I recalled the wonderful project by Sylvia Sucypto "Lily of the Valley Lariat", published in the Bead&Button issue #103, June 2011, pp. 33-35. The original project concerned a lariat featuring 30 lilies of the valley made with seed beads: I simply singled out the flower element to create something else. I recalled as well that my mother had seen the cover of that issue, featuring a photo of this same project, and was struck by it (also because the lily of the valley was my Grandad's favourite flower, and he had died quite young when my mother was still a little girl). I was now sure about what I wanted to make and, while taking breaks to change a dirty diaper, feed the baby and urgently wash his bodysuits, I managed to complete the earrings in 2-3 hours. 

PS: the green colour of the Nymo thread is not a mistake: I wanted it to recall the colour of the stem.

La mia opera migliore - My best work

La mia opera migliore ha visto la luce il 30 novembre 2012 alle 13.38, era lungo 50cm e pesava 3.230kg. E adesso è qui con me!  :-)

My best work was brought to the world on November 30, 2012 at 1.38pm, he was 19 1/2 inches in length and  7lbs2oz in weight. And now he's here with me!
