Come ti reinfilo la collana etnica - Let's string an ethnic necklace

Let's go back to Autumn 2013, when Chiara, a friend I've often written about in this blog, tells me that she has a job for me. A customer of the gym club that I (used to) go to, and where Chiara herself works, needs to re-string a necklace bought in a Middle-Eastern country, since it has a clasp made of low-quality silver which causes her skin rash. She asks me if I want to deal with that, and I immediately accept.

Chiara fetches the necklace: it's very simple, just some chunky bone or plastic beads separated by silver spacers and strung on an unsuitably weak thread (in fact, it has broken), and the infamous clasp. My creative soul catches fire at once: there's nothing like macramé to revamp an ethnic necklace! And, with the owner's approval, I could re-use the silver findings as part of the central neckpiece, so that it will not touch the lady's skin.

First of all, I decide to buy a rhomboid-shaped agatha as a toggle for the new clasp. I undo the necklace and rearrange the beads and the findings in the most suitable way, taking a picture so as not to forget the arrangement. I also choose the C-LON shades I am going to use.

The beads will be strung on 4 threads and "embraced" by a chain of alternate half-hitch knots, one for each side. The two strands will be reunited in a focal centerpiece for which I took my inspiration from a book by the wonderful Patrizia Paris.

I spare you the boring details about the work, my non-existant organisation, my bad skills at evaluating time and the (understandable) annoyance of the necklace's owner. After one and a half year since I was entrusted with the necklace (and exactly after one year since the completion of the work... to give you an idea of the hectic year I've just survived to), here's the result:

BUON 2016!!!
VI AUGURO CHE TUTTI I VOSTRI SOGNI DIVENTINO REALTA'!

HAPPY 2016!!!
I HOPE THAT ALL YOU WISH FOR WILL COME TRUE!
